Hello Everyone,
I MADE THE T-SHIRT and this year I will be STEAMING up with some great ideas.
I am working on STEAM, in lessons and seminars, and the kids are loving it.
Great scientists, mathematicians and engineers are creative thinkers, dreamers and great artists. And great artists are scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, ARTS, and mathematics.
Through the STEAM viewpoint, these subjects are not isolated but intertwined. Adding the "A" to STEM adds an artistic element to what people do in these fields.
At the core of STEAM is inspiration and creative thinking. Students will need to innovate, invent, collaborate imagine, create and design to achieve their goals.
STEAM is a reality based, personally relevant learning experience, in which the learner takes charge of the experience.

Enjoy the STEAM ideas below and let me know what you are doing.
To support VT it costs just $10.00 per year. Thanks in advance it helps a lot and covers the cost of hosting and distribution of the newsletter. AND I will send you the FREE Link to the 4BIG IDEAS ebook. Take a look at some of the pages here.

Nasa Space App Rockets APP NASA FREE Download the App from iTunes
Download App for other devices
This is a fabulous APP, with 3 levels of difficulty. It requires students to read and think about what they are doing and introduces lots of fabulous vocab. Like satellites, orbiting, launch, liftoff, diameter, boosters, solid-fuel, probes, configuration, propellants, trajectory, payload, interface, adapter, jettison, separate etc.

I LOVE IT a great challenge for gifted students but also easier rocket launches as well. The real rocket launch can be viewed online as a video by clicking "launch Video".
Check out NASA's other APPS as well
Mathemateer app Build your rocket then do your Maths.
Great Maths practice across all operations, as well
as creative rocket building. Download it from iTunes $2.99

FREE LESSONS - for SCRATCH jnr
Each of these activities gives you a quick way to learn how to do new things with ScratchJr.
They are listed here in order of simplest to hardest, but you can play around in any order you'd like! There is a downloadable pdf for each lesson.
More able students can work independently to complete these activities and offer assistance as "experts" to other students.
I like doing this activity with students in pairs. The problem solving and disucssions are amazing.

STEM/STEAM in the Primary Classroom:
X Ways to Make the Studying Process More Engaging

Here are some pointers from that article.
1. Make it meaningful
The first step down that road is to make it meaningful. If students don’t think something is meaningful, then they do not think it is worth their effort and are far less likely to engage with it.
2. Provide Autonomy support
By taking back a step and giving up some control.
3. Embrace collaborative thinking
When you can get students to engage with each other, there is a much higher chance that they will engage with your material as well.
4. Establish positive teacher-student relationships
If you can create good relationships with your students, then they’re far more likely to trust you and become engaged with something simply because you are.
5. Foster a sense of competency
To make sure that you’ve got a sense of competency in the classroom, make certain that the information isn’t far beyond what they are already capable of.

6. Promote mastery orientation
Finally, make sure that the focus of the class and the students is not on getting good grades, but on mastering the subject.

Great STEM/STEAM Lessons
THE STRAW ROCKET LAUNCHER
The Soda Straw Rocket Launcher Check out the Nasa website - all the instructions are here.
LESSON 1
Build a rocket and launch it. Follow the instructions on the website. Measure the distance travelled and record over a number of test flights.
Students should decorate their rockets so that they can be identified.
Each group should make 2-3 rockets.

WATCH
the Video for a visual instruction on how to make the rocket.
LESSON 2
Discuss variables design your own Rocket launcher what other variables are there. Design a Rocket and launch it so that it
a. travels the greatest distance.
b. is accurate and can hit a target.

DESIGN
our Own Video Ideas.
