Smaller than a breadbox, bigger than a TV remote, the average book fits into the human hand with a
seductive nestling, a kiss of texture, whether of cover cloth, glazed jacket, or flexible paperback.
John Updike, writer (18 Mar 1932-2009)

A poem defending math as an art form - you will love it.
"After years of being told otherwise in school, I am fed up with art teachers who have tried to prove me wrong; Don't you dare tell me that math is not an art........

....Take a moment to realize that numbers are not nouns; they are adjectives. You cannot hold 2 in the palm of your hand but you can feel 2 hearts beating conjoined by a love for computation. And you cannot see a billion but you can see the skin cells that compose everyone you have ever loved and if that's not beautiful then I don'€™t know what is.....

Typing
Although the demise of the qwerty keyboard is iminent, with voice recognition software like SIRI, TOUCH screen options and wonderful gesture interprepretation options like Leapmotion, even direct BRAIN control maybe possible, it is still necessary now for kids to be able to use the keyboard for data entry.

Here are a few fun and FREE programs for students K-6 to help improve keybaording skills.
BBC Dance Mat Typing This is a great little program for stage 1 and 2

TVO Keyboard climber This is great fun for Stage 1 and 2 - doesn't teach touch typing only key recognition.

Learning Games for kids offers typing games and also speed typing more suitable for stage 2 and 3
And also the typing Factory
Take a look at the Leapmotion software and it's implications for the deaf
The PRogress is amazing including the ability to teach the software different versions of sign language. Take a look at the article from FORBES magazine.

Hi Cathy,
I'm a big fan of your site I just came across it and love it! I've been reading through your Antarctica section just now - a place that's interested me a long time and I'm keen to view more of your site.

I actually discovered this while seeing what sites were using the resource for the interactive ear. There's a new resource we\'ve just created - the human interactive eye. I'd love for you to take a look at the link below and let me know what you think? It would be great to get your feedback and to know if you'd be interested in featuring it on your site.
I hope to hear from you soon,
Rosie Shaw

Hi Rosie,
Impressive site. Love it. I will add it to the site and newsletter this week.
thanks for sending it to me. Please send in any other great resources you find.
