VT's FREE Newsletter for Educators - Insight, Inspiration and Ideas that Work!
It's not ROCKET Science or is IT?

Hello Everyone,
I have loved experimenting with rockets, Newton's Third Law and the writing, mathematics, thinking and creativity that followed. This is a "PULL", learning how to learn opportunity. (Watch the Video)
My students asked amazing and varied questions about, NASA, Apollo missions, designs and history of rockets, life on other planets, aliens, movies and much more. They invented, hypothesised & ENJOYED themselves. I have set up a webpage full of some great links and ideas. For you to ENJOY too.
Let me know what your class does with these ideas.

Advocates LEARNING over EDUCATION. Education is what people do to you. Learning is what you do to yourself. Gtreat teachers have always known that students need to learn how to learn. This is even more relvant today with the INTERNET of everything available to everyone. Our syllabus is still written and examined as if the INTERNET did not exist. I love the PULL over PUSH idea.
Please watch, ejoy and let me know your thoughts.

BallOOn Rockets to be precise. Great fun, great for teaching measurement, fractions, timing, averaging, creative thinking, problem solving, design, student questions, writing(explanation, report, scientific report - sientific method, narrative) and communicating through speaking and listening. Working on one of Newton's Laws:-

Newton’s Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

And suitable from K-10, as the activities can be extended.
Make the Balloon Rockets - be creative. Invent some balloon cars. Check out the vidoes and have some great fun and with these hands on learning experiences.

iBeacon

Paul Hamilton on Beacons
Beacons are set up around the room and the ipads light up when students approach them with ipad.
One of the first examples in the world. Edtech visionary and ADE Paul Hamilton shows how iBeacon technology has been used in education to create learning zones.
iBeacon technology has massive potential in schools, both from a teaching and learning context and administration.

Hi Cathy,
I wrote to recommend a site for Virtual Teacher which I think would be of great use to your visitors. I like how your website does not fluff up content and only links to quality and/or related sites.
I find your page here: http://www.virtualteacher.com.au/artc.html as the best place to get art resources from, and I highly recommend this link from Startlocal:
It lists a good number of art schools around Australia, which I'm quite certain will be a good addition to your excellent resources, and useful to parents who are looking at honing their children's art skills.
Cathy, thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you!
Many thanks,
Rachel
Hi Rachael,
Thanks for this. I write and resource the site myself. There is no money in it at all - but I do enjoy doing it, and lots of people love having this resource at their fingertips. I appreciate the link to you site and will include this in my newsletter.

ciao
Cathy
