2. MIND CANDY

Books are easy to find and easy to buy. A paperback

these days only costs six or seven dollars. You can

borrow that from your kids!

As long as algebra is taught in school, there will be

prayer in school.

I am always doing things I can't do, that's how I get

to do them.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains.

The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher

inspires.

--William Arthur Ward

Our earth is degenerate in these latter days; bribery

and corruption are common; children no longer obey

their parents; and the end of the world is evidently approaching.

If I were asked to enumerate ten educational stupidities,

the giving of grades would head the list... If I can't give

a child a better reason for studying than a grade on

a report card, I ought to lock my desk and go home

and stay there.

6. WEBSITE FOCUS  STAR WARS

Star wars is one of the great stories of our time told in the medium

of our time, using the most advanced technological tools of our

time.  It’s themes and ideas are worthy of study, and it has as

much relevance or perhaps more than the studies of written

literature.  Get your students motivated by viewing this great

epic.

Watch the movie, watch the behind the scenes, find out how

it was all done. What is HDV?  What new technologies did

Lucas use? Who is George Lucas?  What universal themes

play out in this movie?  Are there any parallels to Shakespeare,

Homer etc?

7. WHAT IS WRONG WITH EXAMS??

They don’t test what the kids know.

Kids hate them, teachers hate them.  Why do we have them?

For evaluation? What are we trying to evaluate?

What kids know?

The world has moved on.

We need to evaluate – WHAT KIDS CAN DISCOVER.

Send them on missions of discovery and evaluate that.

Mathematics grew out of building pyramids and sailing the oceans

(I love the story of Longitude by Dava Sobel)

 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0140258795/103-4752011-4300644?v=glance

similarly science, geography and any subject you care to

name grew from voyages into the unknown. Now we can let

kids free to sail the internet and make their own discoveries.

What’s wrong with Education

For many reasons, students' scores on these tests may not reflect their actual knowledge of the subjects tested

portraiture, support artists and perpetuate the memory of great

Hi Cathy, this link (multiplication ) is not available. If this is the

one I used to use a lot with my students it is great!

Hi Cathy,

This link, (multiplication)from the site below, is not available.

If this is the one I used to use a lot with my students it is great!

I hope you can get it working again.

(Online Practice and Games

This is an excellent math site! Students can practise addition,

subtraction and multiplication as either one or two player(s)

and it even has the options of either 'three in a row' (easier)

or 'five in a row' (harder). My students from Grades 3 to 10 all love it!)

Thanks,

Alison
