Love these little robots.

The OZOBOT site has great tutorials and lesson ideas. You can code the OZOBOT in using colour markers or using block coding with OzoBlocky

Googles Deep Mind

This is a great video on A.I. Google's Deep Mind Explained! - Self Learning A.I.

Giving rise to many ethical philosophical questions.

What can we use General Purpose A.I. for in the future?

Google Deep Mind reduces its errors as it learns, what implications does this have for our learning?

If you are terrible at something will you always be terrible?

What implications does Deep Mind have for human learning?

Should we be worried?

What is there to be worried about?

Will A.I. be man's greatest aid or worst enemy?

The kiddos at 4-H suggested this site. It's full of ideas for STEM including Engineering, Robotics, Coding and Simple machines. Some great links. Check it out here.

Intel unleashes the industry’s first dedicated neural network silicon

Intel has spent three years developing the new Nervana Neural Network Processor and says that it will accelerate deep learning training models by an impressive degree.

Next Generation Robots - Boston Dynamics, Asimo, Da Vinci, SoFi

Robotics is a great way to get kids excited about science, technology, engineering, and math And yes they WILL be excitedThey WILL use their imaginationsThey WILL us their brains Studies show that it is highly effective in developing team-work and self-confidence. SPHERO

I love MINDSTORMS packages. The LEGO  Mindstorm series of kits contain software and hardware to create small, customizable and programmable robots. They include a programmable brick computer that controls the system, a set of modular sensors and motors, and LEGO parts from the Technics line to create the mechanical systems.

Mindstorms was developed in conjunction with Seymour Papert one of my all time heroes. He said in 1965 that every child should have a computer.  Amazing

"In my vision of this field its professionals will need special combinations of competences. Apart from a foundation in scientific knowledge and technological skill they will need high degrees of psychological sensitivity and 'artistic' imagination. For the ones who will make the greatest social contribution will be those who know how to mold the computer into forms which people will love to use and in ways which will lead them on to enrichment and enhancement...." (from Solomon, p.133)

Studies of Robotics can also incorporate investigation of all the great movies like

Forbidden Planet with Robbie the Robot,

Lost in Space - Robot D-9,

Star Wars R2-D2 and C-3PO right through to

Data in StarTrek- Next Gen.

Studies of industrial Robots and their impact. And researchable with fabulous YouTube Videos.

Why don’t we have robots taking care of our every need by now? A little history of the field of robotics might help you understand how hard it is to get machines to perform tasks, and how far we’ve come in just a few decades.
